Peter Bayless

BBC MasterChef Champion 2006

Independent Chef, food writer, teacher and demonstrator

After a 40 year career as an advertising creative, in 2005 Peter finally decided to pursue his passion for cooking in a professional capacity and entered MasterChef 2006 to kick-start his new career. As a result of winning, Peter has worked as an independent chef both in France, as private chef to a large family and their house guests, and in the UK where he caters for any number of diners from eight to two hundred and more.

He has published a book of his experiences, ‘My Father Could Only Boil Cornflakes’, and regularly teaches at a number of leading cookery schools throughout the Southeast, as well as giving live demonstrations at food fairs, appearing on TV and radio and contributing articles and recipes to food magazines. Peter is also commissioned by The Caterer Magazine as head chef to organise and prepare all the dishes for judging in their annual event, The Caterer’s Product Excellences Awards.

Now based in the Ashdown Forest area, Peter runs regular events at Hurst Farm B&B and at Perryhill Orchards and is available to cook for private parties, seminars, functions and demonstrations. He also provides private tuition for individuals and groups. Meanwhile, he loves to indulge his love of all things Greek by cooking alongside his friend Thanasis who owns and runs the successful Greek restaurant Pilio in Heathfield where Peter lives. Peter is currently in talks with publishers regarding his newly completed book of traditional Greek recipes: ‘It Isn’t All Greek To Me’.
